The City of Pearland geographically encompasses six different independent school districts, within its jurisdiction (Pearland, Alvin, Pasadena, Fort Bend, Clear Creek, and Houston).  Three of the ISDs have campuses physically within the City (Pearland, Alvin, and Pasadena ISDs).  Both Alvin and Pasadena ISDs have their own police departments which have the primary responsibility for policing their campuses.  Pearland ISD does not have a police department and instead contracts through an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Pearland to provide School Resource Officers at their chosen campuses.

School Resource Officers are selected for their skill sets, not only as law enforcement officers, but also for their ability to positively interact with youth.  The presence of the officers provides security for the campuses, as well as deterrence and when necessary, enforcement of criminal activities.  The SROs are specifically trained in SRO duties, juvenile law, active shooter response, and gang identification as well as general law enforcement.  SROs are able to interact with and build relationships with our next generations of leaders, building a positive rapport which will impact Pearland for years to come.
