Layni Cade was sworn in as City Councilmember Position No. 5 on June 20, 2022.

Before she ran for council, she had a combined six years of prior service with the city. Layni served from 2015-2017 on the Pearland Parks and Beautification Board and from 2017-2021 on the City of Pearland Planning and Zoning Commission—with one of those years as Madame Chair.

Along with her years of service to the city, Councilmember Cade is the current Brazoria County Republican Precinct #51 Chair. She has volunteered her time to the community by serving as the Social Media Manager and National Night Out Representative from 2015-Present for her neighborhood, Woodcreek Subdivision. Layni has also served the Pearland community through the Pearland ISD RISE Mentoring Program, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Committee, Keep Pearland Beautiful, and the Pearland Chamber of Commerce. She is also an alumni of the Pearland Citizens Police Academy.

For her professional career, Councilmember Cade has been a teacher for more than 23 years. She has taught Language Arts and Math, but currently teaches Texas History and works for Texas Connections Academy in Houston ISD where she has been since 2013. She won Best of the Best Teacher in Houston in 2021 and also received a Pioneer Teacher Award in 2010 for her work in Online Education. Cade is also a small business owner. In September of 2021, she joined a friend in opening the Old Pearland Farmers Market at Independence Park.

Councilmember Cade has been a Pearland resident for 23 years. She attended Texas A&M for much of her undergraduate work, but is a graduate of the University of Houston with a BA in Historical Studies. She is married to Vince and they have four children and one son-in-law. They are hoping for grandchildren soon, but for now they just have a grand-dog. In her free time she spends time with her family and traveling in their RV.
