Mission Statement

The mission of the Public Works Water Production and Surface Water Treatment divisions is to safely provide clean, superior, high-quality potable water for the citizens of Pearland, while offering professional and timely customer service.

The City of Pearland’s potable water management is the responsibility of Water Production and Surface Water Treatment. These two divisions are accountable for:

Producing water in compliance with state and federal regulations for drinking water;
Managing water quality and testing;
Maintaining adequate water storage under normal and emergency conditions; and,
Maintaining pressure in the distribution system.

Groundwater Production

Groundwater icon The Water Production division of Public Works has produced water for our community for the past 62 years. Since the installation of the first municipal well, we have expanded to a total of 10 wells that currently produces a capacity of 18.5 million gallons per day. We utilize advanced technology to optimize efficiency and keep water costs low. Staff are available around the clock to address emergency issues to make sure that you have water, especially during an emergency.

All our staff are trained professionals who are certified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in the treatment and delivery of potable water. Additionally, the TCEQ has recognized Pearland as a Superior Public Water System, a designation that means that staff routinely engage in a proactive approach to managing our water system efficiently and beyond minimum expectations.

From Source to Faucet

Raw water is pumped from our source, the aquifer, then disinfected using a combination of sodium hypochlorite and ammonia sulfate. A corrosion inhibitor, polyphosphate, is added to protect pipes from internal corrosion. Water is then stored in ground storage tanks; from there, water enters the distribution system through booster pumps. Elevated storage tanks are part of the distribution system—they add storage and pressure. The distribution system conveys water to homes and businesses in addition to providing hydrants for fire protection.

Water quality tests are performed daily to assure that we are producing safe and superior water. Each month, we collect over 100 samples for bacteriological analysis in addition to several other routine parameters required by TCEQ throughout the year to assure quality and safety of the water we produce.

Surface Water Treatment Plant

As the City’s population increases, so does its water consumption. The City initiated a surface water treatment plant project that will eventually provide a potential 20 million gallons per day (MGD), thus reducing stress on our groundwater source. The plant will utilize advanced treatment (membranes) and plate settlers to reduce the overall footprint on land use, and recycling measures to assure efficiency in the production process. The surface water plant is currently in construction phase and scheduled for completion in January 2023.

Positions that we will be offering include: Process Control Supervisor, Lead Operators, Utility Operators, Maintenance Coordinator, Plant Mechanics, Instrumentation Technician, Electrician, Laboratory Technician, and Administrative Assistant.
