About. The City Utility Division has repeatedly received water quality work orders from the residents of Oakbrook & Oakbrook Estates subdivision. The water quality issues are aesthetic in nature (taste and odor) and does not pose any health or safety issues. Since January 2018, there has been over 50 residential complaints. The City has tried a number of temporary solutions including but despite these efforts, water quality issues in this subdivision are still reported, as they are related to the age of the water in the system and can be largely attributed to the oversized water main (12” diameter) within the subdivision. Without adequate use, the water has the potential to stagnate and develop taste, odor, and nitrification issues. Flushing will only temporarily address the situation and is a costly and inefficient method for improving the water quality within the affected system.

Scope. The proposed project will eliminate water quality issues related to the age of the water in the system. As part of the city’s multi-year water distribution system improvement program this project will improve the circulation of water within the Oakbrook subdivision. This will be accomplished by looping the dead end water lines in the system. In addition to improving water quality, the projects will have the added benefit of reducing the need to flush water lines, thus reducing system water loss. The project is divided into three phases based on a relative order of priority, a higher priority is assigned base on the number of connections receiving benefit from the improvements. Priority one will be competed first, Phases 2 and 3 will follow in future years.
