Description

Effective January 1, 2016, this class is required within two years of completion of the Basic Peace Officer Course.  This course also meets TCOLE requirements towards an Intermediate and Advanced Peace Officer Proficiency Certification.

Prerequisite 

  • Currently appointed as a peace officer

Course topics include:

  • Texas State Animal Laws
  • Recognizing and Understanding Canine Behavior
  • Non-lethal tools/methods/resources to avoid and defend against canine attack
  • Conflict Avoidance, De-escalation, and Use of Force Continuum Principles
  • Other Techniques and Surviving an Attack
  • Identification of other common animal encounters

Audience:

  • Currently commissioned Texas peace officers
