Dunham, Derek

The Criminal Investigations Division is commanded by Captain Derek Dunham. Captain Derek Dunham has been with the Pearland Police Department since 2009. He is a certified Master Peace Officer, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin State University, and a Master of Public Administration from Sam Houston State University. Captain Dunham is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas' Leadership Command College class #89 and has attended the University of Virginia's LEAD program through the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. He has also received numerous recognition awards including Supervisor of the Year and the J.C. Doyle Leadership Award. In addition to having served within Patrol, Traffic, and Special Operations, Captain Dunham has held assignments on the Bike Patrol, Honor Guard, and SWAT Teams.

As the CID Commander, Captain Dunham oversees all investigative operations, including Crime Scene Investigations and the activities of the department's Special Investigations Unit.

CID Units

Special Investigations This unit is a data-driven, proactive investigative unit tasked with identifying trends and suspects who are participating in repeated criminal enterprises, fugitive apprehension, and the resolution of ongoing quality of life issues within the City of Pearland. SIU partners with crime analysts, Pearland officers and detectives, other City departments and neighboring police jurisdictions in order to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations. Crime Scene, Forensics and Analytics This unit collects and processes evidence from crime scenes, recovers and investigates digital evidence located in computers and digital storage media, and analyzes crime trends and patterns in the city and surrounding areas.	Sgt. D. Vlasek 281.997.4192
Crime Victim's Liaison The goal of the Victim Assistance Program is to assist victims of crime, protect and advocate the rights of victims, provide necessary information, and prevent further victimization. Our crime victim liaisons informs victims about police procedures, community resources, and available programs that will assist victims during the aftermath of a crime.
