Also, be sure to take advantage of a federal law that allows you to get a free copy of your credit report from each of the 3 credit reporting companies.  You may request a report once every 12 months.  The credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) have set up a simple Web site for more information.  Remember, the credit reporting companies are not required to provide you a credit score, if you want your credit score you will have to pay for it.
