ABOUT PEARLAND
The City of Pearland, incorporated in 1959, is primarily located in Brazoria County, with portions extending into Fort Bend and Harris counties, 20 miles south of downtown Houston. The City currently occupies a land area of 47.5 square miles and serves a population of approximately 132,900 as of January 1, 2024. The City is empowered to levy property tax on both real and personal properties located within its boundaries. It also is empowered by state statue to extend its corporate limits by voluntary annexation, which occurs periodically, when deemed appropriate by the landowner and governing council.
The City provides a full range of services including police, fire, emergency ambulance service, parks, recreation, water, sewer, traffic engineering, streets and infrastructure, community development (planning and zoning), economic development, public improvements, and general administrative services.

CITY COUNCIL
The City of Pearland is governed by the Council/Manager form of government in accordance with the Home Rule Charter adopted by the voters in February 1971.
The City Council is the legislative and policy-making body of the city. It consists of 7 members elected at-large for 3-year, staggered terms. Elections are held annually on the second Saturday in May. The Mayor and Council provide community leadership, develop policies to guide the city in delivering services and achieving community goals, and encourage citizen awareness and involvement. Elected members of the City Council serve part-time as part of their commitment to the community and serving Pearland. The City Manager, City Attorney, and Municipal Court Judge are under the direction of the Mayor and City Council.
The City Manager is an administrative and executive officer of the government and is responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances, the appointment and supervision of the department heads, and the performance of functions within the municipal organization.

CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
The Council typically meets the second and fourth Monday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. City Council meetings are streamed live online and through the City’s YouTube Channel. Live videos of the meetings, as well as recordings of past meeting, are viewable through the City’s Public Meeting Portal. Recordings of meetings are available for viewing within 72 hours of the meeting and are available for viewing for a period of not less than 365 days after the meeting is posted.
Requests for public documents are available through the City Secretary at 281.652.1651. The City Secretary also responds to inquiries regarding voter registration, city elections and early voting.
