The City of Pearland recently adopted Ordinance No. 1611 establishing requirements and regulations for the operation of properties as Short-Term Rentals within City limits with an effective date of July 1.
To comply with the ordinance, short-term rental owners must obtain a permit from the City of Pearland to operate a short-term rental property and meet several requirements. A non-refundable application fee in the amount of $75 is required plus a $100 fee for an inspection by the Fire Marshal’s office.
The City contracted with GovOS Short-Term Rentals, previously MUNIRevs, which is an online tax, permitting, and vacation rental compliance software company that works with communities across the country. Short-term rental owners will use the online platform to apply for a permit and remit Hotel Occupancy Taxes.
The City of Pearland will send registration letters via US postal mail to the short-term rental property owner’s mailing address the week of June 20. The letter contains a unique activation code and account number needed to create an online GovOS account to begin the online permit process.
Some of the requirements for property owners to obtain a permit include proof of homeownership in the form of a deed and providing contact information for a 24-hour emergency contact; the owner must acknowledge whether the premises operated as a short-term rental property during the 12 months prior to the date of the permit application and whether the City’s Hotel Occupancy Tax for the previous 12-month period was paid to the City.
