PEARLAND, TEXAS – October 16, 2018 – The City of Pearland is proud to announce that Clarence Wittwer will be the City’s next Director of Public Works. Beginning October 22nd, 2018, Mr. Wittwer will oversee the teams responsible for keeping the 452 miles of streets and 476 miles of sidewalks maintained, delivering high-quality water through 547 miles of water lines and collecting sanitary sewer via 453 miles of sanitary sewer lines, treating water and wastewater at 18 facilities, maintaining 410 miles of City drainage infrastructure and a vehicle fleet with 598 operating units, making sure that contracted services for garbage and recycling are collected, and working with the community and partners to ensure that essential City systems are robust and thriving for Pearland residents and businesses. Mr. Wittwer will also help continue to pursue the development of facility management and asset management programs that enhance preventative maintenance schedules, forecasting equipment end of life replacement, and programming for future capital projects.

Mr. Pearson continued, “Clarence joins a great team with Trent Epperson, Robert Upton, Andrea Brinkley and many others in key leadership positions, providing a high performance team serving the community.”

Mr. Wittwer has dedicated his career to finding ways to improve operational departments through streamlining and reengineering processes. He brings to the City 26 years of experience, the majority of which has been dedicated to civil service with local municipalities managing departments and projects of various size and scale. Most recently Mr. Wittwer was the Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Houston where he implemented a Capital Improvement Plan to reduce the number of wastewater plants and lift stations by 50% over 15 years by constructing a tunnel system.

“As the City of Pearland experiences unprecedented growth there will be many changes. Change can be easy or hard depending on how we view it but the one thing that can never change is our commitment to those citizens that we serve.” Mr. Wittwer said.
