Construction for the Fite Road Extension and Centennial Park Phase II Projects has begun. The two projects are both near the existing Centennial Park and will have construction personnel, heavy equipment and possible deep excavations in and around the construction zone. Residents should exercise caution, stay alert for hazards and obey all signage and construction zones within the project.
The park area where Phase II will be constructed currently houses practice fields for soccer. The new $2.7 million phase will remove the soccer goals and existing wood pole lights to construct two new, lighted softball fields, trails and additional parking for the complex. Once the project is complete, youth and adult soccer will move from Centennial Park to the Hickory Slough Sports Complex. Girls softball will move from the Dad’s club to the new softball fields at Centennial Park, which will allow their program to expand at the City’s population increases.
The Fite Road Extension Project will extend Fite Road approximately 2,500 feet running from McLean Road to Veterans Drive on the north boundary of Centennial Park. The $4.9 project includes the construction of a four-lane undivided concrete roadway with curb and gutter, a 10-foot high sound wall on the north side, drainage and a traffic signal at the intersection with McLean Road. This extension will reduce the amount of traffic that is currently diverted to Walnut Street - a primarily residential area. It will also serve as an entrance to Centennial Park Phase II.
